The Post Graduate diploma in Environment and Sustainable Development was developed by the school of Sciences, IGNOU in collaboration with OUSL, BOU, AIOU, BRAOU and BRAC with the financial support from South Asia Foundation. The objectives of the programme are to disseminate information and exchange knowledge and experience gained in the pursuit of the goal of sustainable development, strengthen regional co-operation in environmental capacity building especially in the area of environmental management, educate and train individuals from different walks of life viz. development functionaries, government officials, journalists, policy makers, farmers, industrialists, grassroots workers, environmentalists who have a stake in protecting the environment as well as ensuring the better quality of life for the people of their Countries. This Diploma of one year duration comprises 8 courses worth 32 credits and any Graduates from a recognize University can take this programme. The medium of instruction in English. Four courses are compulsory and a learner can opt for any other four courses from among electives.
The admission in PGDESD is taken in January and July session.
