Entry Requirment

The minimum requirements for the admission to the course of Bachelor in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering are,

  • The candidate must have passed Intermediate of science (Physical group) examination of the Tribhuvan University or equivalent course recognized by the Tribhuvan University;  or
  • The candidate must have passed Diploma in Engineering of the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University or equivalent course with Physics, Chemistry, mathematics and English as separate compulsory subjects.
  • The candidate must pass the entrance admission tests conducted by the Campus and as     prescribed by the Institute of Engineering. Students fulfilling the minimum eligible requirements will be selected for admission on the basis of merits.

Application for admission to the program is  generally invited in the beginning of July.Applicants must appear for the admission test conducted by the Kathmandu University, which is generally conducted in August, at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel. Candidates who are selected from the entrance examination, i.e. eligible candidates are called to appear for a personal interview and admission is done based on the merit list.

The eligibility for admission to various programs of the university is guided by the scores achieved by the applicant in I. Sc., 10+2, or equivalent examination system.

The application form can be collected from the Central Office, Dhulikhel by paying Rs. 300.00 (non refundable).

 

All applicants should submit the application form with a non-refundable payment of Rs. 400.00 to Kathmandu University.

 

In case of applicants who have downloaded form from the web,a non-refundable payment of Rs 700.00 will have to be made with submission of application.

2. Admission Test:

An admission test of two hours duration will be held to examine the candidates' proficiency in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics at the I.Sc. level.

 

3. Interview:

Short listed candidates will be interviewed by the concerned department to assess their aptitude.

The admission to BE program is generally called in the month of June/July, every year.

 

Applicants seeking admission for the BE program must have secured 50% in their I. Sc. (10+2 or equivalent) examination.  In addition to this, the applicants must also have secured 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects. Applicants whose academic education has been gained in a different system should submit full details of their academic experience and qualifications.  Each case will be assessed on merit, against the university entry requirements. The applicants shall go through an admission test that is designed to assess the student's background ability in science subjects, as well as identifying the applicants capacity in verbal and quantitative reasoning and knowledge and comprehension of the English language.

Evaluation

At the end of each semester, students are awarded letter grades as per following grading system.

In order to complete a B.Sc., students are required to maintain a minimum of 2.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Three make up exams are allowed if necessary during the time of study No student is allowed to graduate with u2018Fu2019 in any particular course. The maximum time allowed to complete the B.Sc. Eg degree is five-year from the date of admission into the program.

 

During study, performance of student is continuously accessed through in-semester and end-semester evaluations. Several evaluation criteria such as tests, assignments, presentations, mini-projects are used for the continuous in-semester evaluation. Studentu2019s performance in each successfully completed course is finally indicated by awarding letter grades A, B, C, and D with grade points 4, 3, 2, and 1, respectively. Student must maintain a grade point average equal to or above 2.0 throughout the duration of their studies.

 

Admission

Application for admission to the program is generally invited in the beginning of July. Application forms can be obtained from the universityu2019s central office at Dhulikhel or it can be downloaded from http://www.ku.edu.np/admission/admission.htm. To be eligible for applying, the candidate must have completed Intermediate in Science or Class XII in Science, or equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate and 50% in physics, chemistry, and, mathematics in average. Applicantu2019s proficiency in prerequisites (physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics) is tested through a written admission test. After written test short-listed candidates are called for interview to access their aptitude then the list of candidates eligible for admission is published. The session starts from the first week of August.

Admission Procedure
Nepalese Students

An entrance test will be conducted by the college for admission. Candidates seeking admission in B.E. programs will be appearing for tests in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. Weightage for each subject will be: Physics 25%, Chemistry 15%, Mathematics 40%, and English 20%. Candidates applying for the Architecture course will have to appear in the aptitude test in place of Chemistry. Weightage for each subject will be : Physics 10%, English 20%, Mathematics 30% and Aptitude test 40%. Admission will be done on the basis of the merit list prepared after the entrance test.

Application forms will be available from different places in the city soon. It is currently available from the college.

Foreign Students

Foreign students should have secured a minimum of second division at the Intermediate (Higher Secondary) level with Science group, to be eligible for admission. No entrance test is necessary for them. Instead, a separate interview will be held.

Admissions will be done on the basis of the merit list prepared by considering marks obtained by the candidates in the interview.

Foreign students (other than Indian students) will themselves be responsible for taking care of their immigration related problems before they can be admitted at the college. However, nec will help them in this process in any possible way. Applicants may note that the fee does not include visa fee.

A separate announcement will be made regarding application forms and the date of interview for foreign students.
