SLC Result 2072 And Things To Know About Grading System

Education Hub Nepal June 14th, 2016

Back in December, Government of Nepal had decided to move to the letter grading system, leaving the long lived percentage system . The traditional marking system would rank student in terms of the percentage. 80% or more would regarded as Distinction, More than 60% but below 80% would be regarded as first division, above 45 but below 60% as second division, above 32% to below 45% as third division and all other as failed, however the new grading system is totally contradicting this traditional grading system.

#What’s New Grading System Means?

Unlike the traditional marking system, student will receive grade for their marks, ranging between A-E, every grade will have a comment to describe the student overall performance. The grade will be identified in terms of the marks which a particular student will obtain. There are eight different grades, which are listed below:

  1.  A+ : Student getting more than 90% marks will get A+ as their final grade, and the  grade point will be 4.0 . (Outstanding Performance)
  2.  A : Student getting more than 80 - below 90%, will get A as their final grade, and the grade point will be 3.6 . (Excellent Performance)
  3.  B +: Student getting 70% or above but below 80% will get B+ as their final grade, and the grade point will be 3.2 . (Very Good Performance)
  4. B : Student getting 60% or above but below 70% will get B as their final grade, and the grade point will be 2.8 . (Good Performance)
  5. C+ : Student getting 50% or above but below 60% will get C+ as their final grade, and the grade point will be 2.4 . (Above Average Performance)
  6.  C : Student getting 40% or above but below 50% will get C as their final grade, and the grade point will be 2.0. (Average Performance)
  7. D +: Student getting 30% or above but below 40% will get D+ as their final grade, and the grade point will be 1.6 .(Below Average Performance)
  8. : Student getting 20% or above but below 30% will get D+ as their final grade, and the  grade point will be 1.2
  9.  E: student getting below 20% will get E, as their final grade, and the grade point will be 0.8. (Insufficient Performance)

(Note:: There is no D+ grade in final grading, only D grade with 1.6 grade point, however in marks there exists D+ and D grade seperetly.)

# So Why Letter Grading:

Letter grading is already a standard for school as well as higher education in almost all countries, however Nepal was following the same traditional grading system, along with the long research of Curriculum Development Center, Nepal has adopted this grading system. One of the clear advantage of this grading system is that it’s clear, and organize the result in more convenient way and make less the result less clutter. Another advantage of letter grading system is that, its standardized with the international grading system thus can become the catalyst of changes for higher education such as +2, which is still in percentage grading system. Most of the universities are already in letter grading system.

# What You Need To Know:

Do know that you still have to maintain a grade over D to get chance to admitted in higher secondary education, if you get grade less than D in two or more subjects, you can re-apply for a chance exam, which will be followed shortly after the publication of the result.

Likewise, depending upon the requirement of colleges, student might have to secure C or more to increase the chances of admission in colleges where students are admitted in quote.

Though, there were some criticism about letter grading system, Nepal government has finally adopted this system, which has encouraged great changes over our study performance measurement of school levels. This is the first year of this kind of grading system, however this same letter grading system will be implemented from this year unless government again make the changes.
